The Muse of Ocean Parkway is a series of short stories describing the lives of several different city-dwelling Jewish people. The characters range from a mother who has adopted a young girl from China to a rabbi whose daughter has embraced Christianity to (my favorite) an elderly Jewish man corresponding with "Mr.

G" (a very very thinly disguised Mel Gibson.)4/5(10). The Muse of Ocean Parkway is clearly a niche book. Though it contains beautiful somber imagery and perplexingly interesting characters, Muse is a book that is a difficult and perhaps offensive read for the casual consumer. Some books take place in New York, others are about New York - Muse is definitely a book about New York.4/5.

"The Muse of Ocean Parkway and Other Stories explores difficulties Jews face while trying to balance their religious practices with the fast-paced, modern society of New York City. Their lives captured in moments of crisis, Jacob Lampart's protagonists range from an artist attempting to escape obscurity to a mother struggling to decide how to.

The parkway’s bike path, built inis the country’s oldest. I received The Muse in exchange for an honest review It’s inevitable that Jessie Burton’s new novel, The Muse, will be compared wth her smash-hit debut, The Miniaturist. And I seem to be in the minority in thinking that this novel is better than her first.

It’s certainly cemented Jessie Burton as my my current favourite historical Missing: Ocean Parkway.
